The women's handball club Thüringer HC has clinched a playoff spot in the German league. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller defeated BSV Sachsen Zwickau 32:23 (16:14) in the eastern duel on Wednesday evening and can no longer be displaced from fourth place with 23:13 points two matchdays before the end of the main round. In the absence of top scorer Johanna Reichert, Csenge Kuczora was the THC's best scorer with nine goals. Silje Petersen also scored nine times for Zwickau (11:25), who are coached by Norman Rentsch.
The Thuringians set the course for victory right from the start. They defended very attentively and ran the ball well in attack. The home side was already 8:2 ahead after ten minutes. However, the intensity in defense dropped significantly after that. The eighth-placed team from Zwickau became increasingly courageous and stalked back to within two goals by the break. However, the THC quickly regained control after the break and produced a 6:1 run to pull 27:19 ahead in the 50th minute.
