Aue pull off a coup after relegation. The goal-scoring captain remains loyal to the Veilchen in the Regionalliga.

FC Erzgebirge Aue can keep goalscorer Marcel Bär despite their relegation from the 3rd division. The 33-year-old will complete a fourth season with the Veilchen, as the club announced. Bär moved to the Erzgebirge from 1860 Munich in 2023 and has scored 41 competitive goals to date.

"I didn't want to say goodbye to relegation. When we won the Saxon Cup, we saw once again what makes this club and its fans so special. I feel a great deal of trust and appreciation here, which is why it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to continue on this path together," said Bär, who himself scored the decisive goal in the 2-0 win against FSV Zwickau.

Aue will now also invest some of the €200,000 they will receive for reaching the first main round of the DFB Cup in their goal scorer in order to get back on track. "We fought for him and were rewarded," said squad planner Steffen Ziffert about Aue's top scorer of the past three seasons, "there are no two opinions about the sporting qualities of Marcel Bär, as a leading player he now wants to continue to lead the way and become an important cornerstone of the new team."

Aue will begin preparations for the new season on June 21. In addition to a training camp, seven test matches are on the program. The highlight is the encounter with Bundesliga newcomers FC Schalke 04 on July 19 (2 p.m.) at the Erzgebirgsstadion. The season in the Regionalliga Nordost begins on the weekend of July 24-26.
