The Niners Chemnitz basketball team remains the measure of all things in the German league. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore were able to celebrate a clear 87:69 (44:43) triumph against eleventh-placed EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Saturday after improving in the final two quarters and underpinning their leading position in the German elite class with their 17th win of the season. DeAndre Lansdowne (21), Jeff Garrett (20) and Tylor Ongwae (14) were the main contributors. DeWayne Russell (15), Chaundee Brown Jr. (13) and Geno Crandall (11) scored in double figures for Oldenburg.
The home side quickly went 9:2 (3) in front, but lost its rhythm in between due to poor decisions in attack. Oldenburg was 21:20 ahead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 38:33 by the 17th minute. The visitors held their own against the leaders until the end of the third quarter. However, the Niners then pulled away from 54:52 (29') and 62:54 (31') to 72:60 (35'). The outstanding shooting percentage from close range was the deciding factor in this game, which was close for more than 30 minutes. The home side had a shooting percentage of 74 percent. 26 out of 35 attempts landed in the opposing side's basket. Oldenburg was only able to convert 17 of its 29 attempts.
