The captain leads the way - two Hauptmann goals earn a point

At half-time, Dynamo can dream of a three-pointer in Karlsruhe. But once again, they pull back far too far and consequently concede the equalizer.

With his first brace in the 2nd Bundesliga, Niklas Hauptmann paved the way for his team to pick up another point. In the 3:3 (3:1) draw at Karlsruher SC, the captain netted twice in the first half (3rd, 44th). In between, Ben Bobzien (28) scored his first Dynamo goal. But it wasn't enough as Karlsruhe held out thanks to two penalties from Marvin Wanitzek (23rd, 90th +3) and a goal from Louey Ben Farhat (68th). Thirteenth place reads well, but is anything but a cushion. Greuther Fürth, in the relegation place, have 26 points, as do Dynamo.

"After the first half, it's two points lost. We no longer had the courage to play soccer. There were too many long balls, no more transfers. We didn't win any headers or second balls in defense," said a disappointed Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm on the Sky microphone. Jason Ceka also spoke of what felt like a defeat, but also noted: "In our situation, every point is important. But we should have played like we did in the first half."

Stamm had only made one forced change to his team, which had been so successful in recent weeks. Ceka returned to the starting eleven in place of the suspended Jakob Lemmer and was extremely confident. Before KSC even had the ball in the Dynamo half, it was already 1-0.

KSC substitute goalkeeper Himmelmann looks unlucky twice

The Saxons, in the person of Hauptmann, took advantage of the uncertainty in the Karlsruhe backline after the goalkeeper change. Robin Himmelmann, who had to deputize for regular keeper Hans Christian Bernat, who was suspended for two years but had not had any match practice, let a shot from the Dynamo attacker that was absolutely unstoppable slip under his arms.

It took the Baden side just under 20 minutes to regroup, but they then had their first chance to equalize. Dynamo keeper Tim Schreiber was only able to deflect a header forward after a corner, but he hit the incoming Christoph Kobalt on the foot as he tried to clear. Wanitzek converted the penalty with aplomb.

But the Dynamos struck back immediately. Bobzien somehow got his toe to a rather slipped Ceka cross and surprised Himmelmann for a second time. Karlsruhe had to regroup, but ran into a Dynamo counter-attack. Hauptmann marched through the entire midfield at great speed and under pressure, played a one-two with Vincent Vermeij and finished somewhat luckily, but also skillfully.

KSC put Dynamo under pressure after the break

After the break, Bobzien (48') tried a shot, which Himmelmann saved strongly. It was Dresden's last attacking move for a long time as KSC now pressed. A tactical switch to a back four provided more security and at the same time revitalized the attacking play. Schreiber was at the heart of a Wanitzek free-kick (60') and Roko Simic (62'), while the hosts missed another chance through Ben Farhat (64'). However, Schreiber was powerless to stop KSC's follow-up. The same applied to a Simic header (70'), which bounced back into the box from the inside of the post.

It was only after this that Dynamo became more committed in their forward play. Himmelmann, who now looked more stable than in the first half, reacted strongly to a shot from Jonas Sterner (74'). Overall, however, the visitors failed to relieve the pressure, gave the ball away far too quickly and were dangerously sloppy in their defensive play.

As was the case in the third minute of stoppage time. Alexander Rossipal hit Lilian Egloff on the penalty line and the VAR signalled a penalty. Wanitzek again converted easily and safely to score his 13th goal of the season. Black & Yellow were even lucky not to lose the game completely when Ben Farhat scored offside (90.+6).
