The women's team in Leipzig has discovered Belgian soccer and is signing a third player from the champion team in Leuven. Meanwhile, Gina Chmielinski is moving to Italy.

RB Leipzig has signed Belgian national team player Zenia Metrens from OH Leuven for the third time this transfer window. According to the club, the 25-year-old defender signed a contract through the summer of 2029. Prior to Metrens, Linde Veefkind and Sara Pusztai had already moved to Leipzig from the Belgian champions.

“Zenia brings exactly the qualities we’ve been looking for in our defense. She stands out for her dynamism and game intelligence and can accelerate our play with her excellent ability to open up the field,” said Viola Odebrecht, head of women’s and girls’ soccer at RB.

Mertens brings a wealth of experience. She played in 160 competitive matches for Leuven and scored 11 goals. Since the U15 level, she has played for all of Belgium’s youth national teams and has been called up to the senior national team 14 times so far.
