Pure emotion after Cottbus' promotion
After the 1:0 win at SSV Jahn Regensburg, FC Energie Cottbus broke all the dams. The fans who had made the game a home match stormed the pitch. Captain Axel Borgmann wept with happiness, President Sebastian Lemke announced a marathon celebration. It had been twelve years of drought before second division soccer was finally played in Lusatia again. However, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz immediately raised his finger in warning. "I hope the club makes something of it. Especially in the euphoria, you make a lot of mistakes," Wollitz said on MagentaSport.
However, he didn't want to forbid anyone from celebrating. "For me, it all comes a little later. I'm proud to be a part of it," said Wollitz and announced: "The boys know that I'm a party animal. They'll be surprised."
Lemke looked back in the hour of success: "This is the highlight of a journey. We took over the club five years ago when it was at rock bottom, financially and in sporting terms. Everything was in ruins. With a small team, we managed to bring it back up from the mediocrity of the 4th division," said the president and Wollitz emphasized: "Understanding the players as people - that's our key. We didn't get any pressure from the top - even when we lost in the regional league. I took the boys with me completely."
