The FC Bayern Munich women’s soccer team extended their winning streak and celebrated a special milestone. The double champions won 5-1 (2-0) at RB Leipzig and are now unbeaten in 50 consecutive Bundesliga matches across two seasons. Kicking off Matchday 8, coach José Barcala’s team celebrated their eighth league victory of the season, marking a successful dress rehearsal for next Wednesday’s Champions League match against Real Madrid. The Munich women suffered their last Bundesliga defeat on October 12, 2024, in a 0–2 loss to VfL Wolfsburg. Four days after their 5-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, the favorites had no trouble. Momoko Tanikawa gave the FCB an early lead in the 8th minute. Zenia Mertens (14th minute) scored an own goal that resulted in Munich’s second goal. National team forward Klara Bühl (55th/73rd minutes) also scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, and Edna Imade added another in the 85th minute. One minor setback: National team goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic was shown a red card in the 75th minute for a professional foul. Since Munich had already used up all its substitutions, defender Vanessa Gilles had to step into goal. For RB, which had won its previous two matches, Marleen Schimmer scored (78th minute). With this victory, FC Bayern maintained its perfect record against the Saxon side. It was their seventh win in seven games. Munich currently leads the standings by six points over their longtime rival VfL Wolfsburg, which can narrow the gap back to three points with a win on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
