The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has won its last intermediate round game in the Fiba Europe Cup. The leaders of the German Basketball League defeated Dutch first division side ZZ Leiden 78:57 (41:31) on Wednesday. The Saxons had already booked their ticket for the playoffs before the game. DeAndre Lansdowne (15 points), Tylor Ongwae (11) and Kaza Kajami-Keane (10) played the biggest part in the home side's success. Alex Gross (13), Tajion Jones (12) and Luke van Bree (10) scored in double figures for Leiden.
The home side found it difficult to get into the game and was only able to pull away from its opponents shortly before the end of the second quarter with a 7:0 run from 31:26 (17') to 39:26 (19'). Chemnitz stepped up its intensity in defense after the break and forced the visitors to concede 22 turnovers. The club from Saxony only lost possession nine times in its own attack and had already decided the game in its favor at 62:42 before the start of the final quarter.
