1. FC Magdeburg has taken a promotion spot in the 2nd Bundesliga, at least temporarily. On the fifth matchday, the team of coach Christian Titz came to a 6:4 (2:3) victory over Hertha BSC in a racy match. In front of 26,872 spectators at the MDCC Arena, Silas Gnaka (7th) and Luca Schuler (37th), Jason Ceka (49th), Leon Bell Bell (58th) and Mohammed El-Hankouri (68th) and substitute Ahmet Arslan in injury time scored the goals for the hosts. Fabian Reese (2nd minute), Marten Winkler (22nd) and Haris Tabakovic (42./55.) had brought the guests four times in the lead.
Through the victory, the still unconquered Magdeburger take over with now nine points at least temporarily the second place behind Holstein Kiel. Hertha falls after the first league win in the previous week in the 5-0 against SpVgg Greuther Fürth with still three points on the relegation place back.
