Hundreds of people celebrated the 4th Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Görlitz - accompanied by a demonstration by right-wing extremists. Under the motto "Acceptance, Love, Equality!", the CSD participants marched through the border town and also to the Polish side. According to the organizers, they demonstrated for a tolerant region and celebrated diversity.

According to initial police reports, around 100 people took part in a counter-demonstration by right-wing extremist groups. German and Polish right-wing extremists had called on social networks to oppose the CSD.

According to the police, a direct clash between the two gatherings was prevented. "The two processions were delayed and sent on their way about 200 meters apart. First the CSD and then the counter-protest," said a police spokesperson. According to initial reports, it remained calm and there were no riots or physical confrontations.

The CSD takes place every year in many cities around the world, in memory of the events of June 28, 1969 in New York: police officers stormed a bar on Christopher Street, triggering several days of protests by gays, lesbians and trans people, among others.
