Pornographic images in the classroom? Why the Saxon State Office for Education does not reproach school management, but wants to put its dealings with external providers to the test.

After stopping a controversial theater project at a secondary school in Schleife in the Saxon region of Lusatia, the Saxon State Office for Schools and Education (LASUB) sees no misconduct on the part of the school management. The project, in which the ninth-graders were allegedly presented with pornographic images and content in the classroom, was reportedly offered to the Deutsch-Sorbische Oberschule by email in January 2026. The actual implementation on the first day "blatantly" contradicted the previously outlined objectives and methods. From the school's point of view, there was "no reason to suspect" that media with potentially pornographic content was being used.

Amadeu Antonio Foundation ends funding for theater project

The case, which occurred back in March, came to light at the beginning of the week. As part of the project week, the ninth graders were supposed to work with various materials on the topic of "courage" and "current political issues", it was apparently said in advance. According to the LASUB, this collection "apparently also included a booklet with sensitive, potentially pornographic images". According to media reports, the images were of two men engaging in various sexual practices. Several parents filed criminal charges after the incident.

According to the authorities, the school management canceled the project on the same day and terminated the service contract with those responsible for the project. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which campaigns for minorities and human rights, has now also stopped funding the theater project, press spokesman Lorenz Blumenthaler told the German Press Agency. Further workshops had been planned. However, from the foundation's point of view, there was no longer a basis for funding.

In response to an inquiry, the school inspectorate and the Ministry of Culture want to examine how to deal with external providers in the future. At the same time, the police are investigating on suspicion of distributing pornographic content to minors.
