Nine supporters of the climate group Last Generation interrupted an appearance by Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) in Leipzig on Thursday afternoon. According to the police on Thursday, the activists ran towards the stage during a debate in Leipzig's Kupfersaal and verbally attacked the finance minister. It was initially unclear exactly what was said. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported.
Lindner had been invited to a debate with economics professor Gunther Schnabl from the University of Leipzig and was to speak about the current budget situation and the national debt in Germany, among other things.
After the activists did not comply with the organizer's request to leave the hall, the police intervened. Almost 50 people had already demonstrated against the minister's appearance before the event. According to the police, the demonstration "No place for hatred of the poor and politics of the rich" had been registered.
In a video of the Last Generation circulating on Platform X, Lindner responds to the activists with the words: "You can protest, but democracy, the rule of law and the market economy, the values of this society, are stronger than you."
The police are investigating the activists on suspicion of trespassing.
