The sale of Saxony's largest alpine ski resort to an investor has been completed. The municipal subsidiary Fichtelberg Schwebebahn Kurort Oberwiesenthal is no longer owned by the town, but is now part of the private lift company Oberwiesenthal, Mayor Jens Benedickt announced on Facebook.
"With yesterday's receipt of the agreed purchase price, a long journey, characterized by intensive negotiations and many discussions, has come to a successful conclusion - a journey that we embarked on together in November 2024," Benedickt continued. As things currently stand, however, the company will continue to exist and will continue to offer its existing services in the medium term.
The sale was originally supposed to have been completed in mid-August. But then the process stalled. In June, the Oberwiesenthal town council approved the sale of the ski resort, including the historic suspension lift, to the private lift company.
