The leader of the SPD in Saxony, Kathrin Michel, has lamented the increasing aggression in the election campaign and called for a rethink. She said in Dresden on Monday that the current situation was leading to a further escalation of violence and referred, among other things, to the fatal knife attack in Mannheim last Friday. There, a man from Afghanistan had injured several men at an event organized by the Islam-critical movement Pax Europa (BPE). A 29-year-old police officer died as a result of his injuries. Michel called for the perpetrator to be severely punished, if only to reduce the risk of copycat attacks. "None of us wants to live in a society characterized by violence."
At the same time, the MP called for moderation in dealing with political opponents. "I actually think that concerns everyone. You have to be careful." For her personally, the claim applies: "Be careful with your words". Even in the Bundestag, she does not tend to shout in plenary. It's about being a role model. People can have different opinions, but everyone should do so with decency. "Everyone should pay attention to how they deal with dissenters in their arguments." SPD Chairman Henning Homann added: "Violence does not only take place through actions, but also through language." In recent months, a disinhibition has also been observed in language.
