Schwesig: Boosting the economy is the most important goal

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) believes the new federal government has a duty to get the economy moving again. "No economic growth for the third year in a row - that's not on," she said at the opening of the East German Economic Forum in Bad Saarow. The most important thing for the economy was to lower energy prices, boost investment and reduce bureaucracy.

The most important political goal was to get the economy moving again, Schwesig emphasized. Permanently lower energy prices are needed for citizens and companies. She said that the German government wanted to make progress here. She also called for "fair grid fees that create advantages for renewable energy production regions instead of penalizing them for their investments".

Reducing bureaucracy is also important. There is plenty of scope here in many areas. In addition, more investment is needed again.

At the three-day conference, some business leaders also want to discuss the challenges facing eastern Germany as a business location with the new black-red federal government. Companies are complaining about high energy prices, a shortage of skilled workers, a high tax and duty burden and too much bureaucracy.
