Saxony's Left Party politician André Hahn announces that he will not run again in the next federal election. After almost three decades in the state parliament of Saxony and the Bundestag, Hahn wants to pass the baton to younger people.

The Saxon Left Party politician André Hahn (60) does not want to run again in the next federal election. He has now been a member of the Saxon state parliament and the Bundestag for almost three decades, Hahn said in a statement distributed Friday. "After this long time, it seems right to me to pass on the baton to younger people in 2025." He said he was announcing the decision at the halfway point of the current election period so that his party would have enough time to build up a successor.

Hahn has been, among other things, chairman of the Left parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony and deputy parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag. He wants to remain politically active after leaving the Bundestag, he stressed.
