Artificial intelligence also poses challenges for data protection. The two are not mutually exclusive, says Saxony's data protection officer.

The number of complaints about data protection continues to rise in Saxony. Last year, data protection officer Juliane Hundert registered around 1,260 complaints and suggestions regarding controls. This represents an increase of eight percent compared to the previous year.

There was a new high for reports of data breaches: The 1,000 mark was exceeded for the first time. The majority of these concerned the misplacement and loss of postal documents. There was also an increase in requests for advice from just under 600 to 740.

"Data protection does not protect data, it protects people," Hundert clarified. When data is protected, democracy is also protected. Artificial intelligence is one of the most important topics in data protection, said Hundert. The two are not mutually exclusive.
