Four electric cars belonging to Leipzig's public utility company are on fire. The police suspect arson and a political motive.

Following the burning of four electric cars belonging to Leipzig's public utility company, extremism specialists from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) are investigating. The vehicles were set alight by unknown perpetrators early on Tuesday morning, the LKA announced. A political motivation cannot be ruled out.

An anonymous letter of confession was published on the internet. In it, the crime is presented as resistance to the "expansion of Leipzig into an armaments base".

The police put the damage at around 200,000 euros. No one was injured. The four cars were completely burnt out. Investigators are appealing for witnesses in connection with the arson.
