Little Snowy from GDR children's television is growing beyond himself. In a special exhibition at the Pirna City Museum, the popular puppy figure can now be seen in XXL format and can be used as a selfie point, the museum announced. The original Struppi is also on display. The hand puppet is part of the Pirna museum's collection, but can only be exhibited temporarily for conservation reasons.
Special exhibition on display until mid-October
In order to offer visitors a permanent equivalent to touch and take selfies with, Ivelina Angelova, curator of the current special exhibition, had the idea of creating an oversized Struppi. Illustrator and designer Anja-Katharina Halbig was commissioned to do this. The Big Snowy now stands in the foyer of the museum. The current special exhibition "Are you all here? Kasper, Struppi and their friends" is open until October 19.
"Puppet father" Hein's Fülfe enchanted generations of children
Struppi could be seen alongside Taddeus Punkt. Behind the dot was the puppeteer and quick-drawing artist Heinz Fülfe (1920-1994). Together with Struppi, to whom he also lent his voice as a ventriloquist, he regularly appeared in the evening greeting of the TV series "Unser Sandmännchen" and enchanted generations of children. Two TV episodes from the studio in Berlin-Adlershof can be experienced on video in the exhibition.
Five years ago, to mark Fülfe's 100th birthday, the Pirna Museum paid tribute to the artist and exhibited pictures, photos and documents from the estate of the TV favorite and his wife Ingeburg. Fülfe was born in Freiberg and attended secondary school in Elsterwerda, but then moved to Pirna. Here he graduated from high school and worked as a set painter, musician, dancer and actor at the Volkstheater.
From 1955, Fülfe and his wife worked for German television and founded children's television at Königstein Fortress with the puppet show "Flax und Krümel". In almost 40 years, the couple wrote around 200 "Evening Greetings" with Fox and Magpie, Mauz and Hoppel, Pitti and Schnatterinchen.
