About 100 dogs took a dip in the cool water in Dresden: For the first time, the city’s public swimming pool authority hosted a dog swimming event. Both humans and dogs were equally thrilled.

Fun in the Water for Pets: Dresden’s municipal swimming pool authority organized its first-ever dog swimming days, striking a chord with two-legged and four-legged friends alike. For the premiere at the Mockritz Natural Pool on Saturday, with perfect swimming weather and plenty of sunshine, nearly 100 dogs and about twice as many owners showed up. “We’re very satisfied. It was great,” pool manager Matthias Pilz told the German Press Agency.

On Sunday, too, dozens of dog owners flocked to the Mockritz Natural Pool with their pets—even though not a single ray of sunshine pierced the thick cloud cover. Pool staff called it a “complete success.”

Two dogs tried out the water slide

Dogs in stylish swimwear were also spotted during the event. Two even tried out the water slide, Pilz reported. From small Yorkshire Terriers to Great Danes, many dog breeds proved to be water lovers. Some owners also ventured into the water, according to reports.

Admission to the swimming fun cost 3 euros for the dog and its owner combined. As the season winds down, this also brings some money into the city’s coffers. Dresdner Bäder GmbH had responded to a wish expressed by many dog owners with this event.

An opportunity to meet new dog friends

“This is our response to a recurring request. On the spacious grounds in Mockritz, which feature a natural pond, dogs of all sizes will find the perfect conditions to run around, sniff about, and meet new dog friends,” the company stated.
