Were they always on the ball or did they have to fight their way through? And are they now on the home straight? The exhibition "Over every hurdle - women in sport in Saxony" makes the sporting struggles and successes of women and girls visible. From Tuesday, June 3, it can be seen at the city office in Leipzig.
Saxony is a land of sport. But how equal were women in the past and how are female athletes today? The exhibition covers six thematic areas and the period since the 19th century - from the women's gymnastics movement at the time, to their role in the totalitarian systems of the 20th century and right up to the present day. Interactive elements invite visitors of all ages to take part and show the eventful female sports history of Saxony.
The show is opened by Louise-Otto-Peters-Gesellschaft in cooperation with the Landessportbund Sachsen and the Sport Science Faculty of Leipzig University on Tuesday, June 3, 4 pm. The project was funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Justice and for Democracy, Europe and Equality (2023/24).
