A tropical light show and a name search for a koala cub at the beginning of the year, events for young and old throughout the year. Leipzig Zoo presents the program for 2026.

Leipzig Zoo has presented its program for 2026 and looked back on the past year. "We are looking forward to an eventful year with many highlights," said Zoo Director Jörg Junhold. With numerous discovery days, a big children's festival in September and activities during the summer vacations and Halloween, events for young and old are on the program at Leipzig Zoo in 2026.

Magical Tropical Lights and koala cub

At the beginning of the year (8 January to 8 February), the "Magical Tropical Lights" festival will bathe the zoo in a special light for four weeks. After dark, the Tropical Hall and parts of the zoo grounds will be bathed in bright colors with light installations from Thursday to Sunday until the beginning of February.

The zoo is still looking for a new name for the newborn koala cub until 19 January. Visitors are invited to submit name suggestions for the young female koala. Almost 500 suggestions have been submitted so far, the zoo announced.
