Three countries, many voices. Why Poland, France, and Germany want to present themselves together at the Leipzig Book Fair.

At the 2027 Leipzig Book Fair, Poland, France, and Germany will present a joint program focus. This will be the first time that three countries have presented themselves together at the book industry’s spring event, the fair announced.

This year, the book fair focused on the Danube region; in previous years, countries such as Norway and Austria had served as individual guest countries.

The program will be titled “Beziehungsweise Europa” and will bring together literary perspectives from Poland, France, and Germany. It breaks away from the traditional guest country format and the idea of a supposedly homogeneous national literature.

“Rather, the aim is to read between the lines—between languages, between all attributions of identity. The joint guest-country presentation emphasizes: ‘Exchange, solidarity, and cooperation are more important than ever,’ according to the fair.

The presentation is supported by the cultural institutes of the three countries: the Polish Institute, the Institut français, and the Goethe-Institut. The book fair will take place from March 18 to 21, 2027.
