Glow sticks, a giant box, and dancing joggers: Hundreds of runners celebrated together on Thursday at the first Run and Rave in Dresden. The classic party scene usually looks quite different—but for many participants, that’s exactly what makes it so appealing.
“You really combine this athletic, healthy aspect with something that’s usually associated with being unhealthy,” says runner Lena Stegert. And she feels more connected to the people at the same time; athletic performance isn’t the main focus. About 400 other joggers ran with her through Dresden’s Ostragehege—so many that the truck with the DJ booth had to stop, and runners took turns carrying a large speaker on their shoulders.
