Dustin Hoffman isn't just celebrating his award in Karlovy Vary—he's also returning to the big screen with *The Graduate*. Here's what else festivalgoers can look forward to.

Hollywood star Dustin Hoffman has been awarded the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for his outstanding contributions to world cinema. The 88-year-old accepted the award in person at the opening ceremony of the international film festival in the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary. This Saturday, Hoffman will present his 1967 debut film, *The Graduate*, in which he played the lead role of college graduate Benjamin Braddock, who is seduced by an older woman.

The 60th edition of the film festival runs through July 11. Founded in 1946, the festival—which initially alternated with its Moscow counterpart—is one of the oldest in the world. Every summer, the festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad to Karlovy Vary, which is located about 100 kilometers east of Bayreuth and 70 kilometers south of Chemnitz.

Soccer Documentary as Opening Film

Over the course of his career, Hoffman was honored with, among other awards, two Oscars for Best Actor—for his roles in “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Rain Man.” In Karlovy Vary, he attended the screening of the opening film “El Partido” (The Match) as a member of the audience. The sports documentary chronicles Argentina’s 2-1 victory over England at the 1986 World Cup—an emotional event that took place just a few years after the Falklands War between the South American country and the United Kingdom.

Award Also for Maggie Gyllenhaal

Actress and director Maggie Gyllenhaal received the Festival President’s Award in Karlovy Vary. This award, presented outside the competition, honors “individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of filmmaking.” The American actress will screen her feature film “The Bride! – Long Live the Bride” at the festival; the film was released in German theaters back in March. With this film, the American actress presents a feminist reinterpretation of the Frankenstein legend.
