The Chemnitz Art Collections have received a top-class donation of 42 Expressionist works of art. They come from the collection of entrepreneur Hermann Gerlinger. They include key works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Erich Heckel and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The donation is "a great stroke of luck", said General Director Florence Thurmes. "Such gestures are extraordinary, especially when they enrich and highlight our own holdings in this way."
The donation covers the entire technical spectrum from oil paintings to watercolors, drawings and prints to sculptures, according to a statement. Part of the donation is expressly for the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff House, which opened in spring.
