Ten temporary Stolpersteine from Zeitz have been added to the collection of the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum in Leipzig. The stones from the 3D printer were laid by schoolchildren after all ten Stolpersteine in the town in the south of Saxony-Anhalt were stolen last year. The theft was discovered on October 7, the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.
According to the museum, the pupils did not want to accept the missing stones and made the temporary ones out of white plastic. They replaced the stolen stones for around a month before the artist and initiator of the Stolperstein project, Gunter Demnig, provided replacements at the end of November.
On the one hand, the temporary Stolpersteine show that anti-Semitism is a major problem, explained museum director Uta Bretschneider. On the other hand, they are also proof of the commitment of young people. The plastic cubes will initially go into the museum depot, but from February 2027 they will be displayed in the exhibition "After Hitler. The German Confrontation with National Socialism" from February 2027.
