On Sunday, Christians in many places in Saxony celebrated Easter with church services and processions. In a mass, the bishop of the Dresden-Meissen diocese, Heinrich Timmerevers, stressed the importance of Easter as a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, which goes beyond days off.

In Sorbian Lusatia, the Easter message was carried from place to place by riders on horses on Sunday. This custom, which dates back to the 15th century, is recognized as intangible cultural heritage and attracts many spectators every year. The riders, in festive dress and on decorated horses, sing songs, say prayers and carry cross and church flags in a procession.

Easter was already heralded on the eve and night of Sunday with devotions, church services, music and Easter fires. In some churches also baptisms took place. On Easter Monday, more events are on the program, with music with choirs and wind instruments playing a special role. In Meissen, an Emmausgang will take place, while a service with a trombone choir is planned in Leipzig's Nikolaikirche. In the bicycle church of Markkleeberg-Zöbigker, the Easter garden will open with a church service, followed by a bicycle tour.
