Born in Leipzig, trained in Dresden and now working in Chemnitz: Christine Marquardt will start there next year as the new opera director.

Christine Marquardt is to become the new opera director at Chemnitz Municipal Theatres. She will start on 1 August 2025, succeeding Jürgen Reitzler, as the Chemnitz theaters announced.

Marquardt emphasized that inspiring children and young people for musical theater is a matter close to her heart. Another personal focus is on opening up the opera even further to the city with a diverse program in the coming seasons.

Marquardt comes from Leipzig and studied singing at the Dresden Academy of Music. She began her career in 2009 as an assistant director for musical theater at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. This was later followed by positions at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Semperoper Dresden and the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. In the meantime, she also worked as a freelancer.
