Chemnitz is European Capital of Culture 2025 - but who was it in the years before? The Chemnitz University Library has 750 books to find out.

On the occasion of the Chemnitz Capital of Culture year, Chemnitz University Library is making 750 books on all the Capitals of Culture accessible. It is a colorful mixture of travel and city guides, illustrated books, guidebooks and literature with local references, the university announced. The special collection is open to all interested parties until the end of December.

In addition, all users are invited to add to the "Capital of Culture shelf" in the library. Items relating to the Capital of Culture - including homemade objects - can be handed in at the university library. They will then be put on display.

The European Union has been awarding the title "European Capital of Culture" since 2000. Previously, the "European City of Culture" was chosen. This year, Chemnitz and Nova Gorica/Görz in Slovenia/Italy hold the title.
