Late effects of the coronavirus pandemic are still being felt. The Free Voters and AfD are calling for a review of the political decisions made during this period.

The late effects of the coronavirus pandemic are still being felt: the Free Voters in Saxony and the AfD are calling for a review of the political decisions made during this time. "After the closure of kindergartens and schools was subsequently declared a mistake, it is now also clear that further measures were not absolutely necessary during the coronavirus crisis. Such wrong decisions must not be repeated. We have to learn from this and that is why we need to take a proactive approach to dealing with what happened," explained FW head Thomas Weidinger on Monday.

Weidinger cited the lack of communication as an example of mistakes made during the pandemic. Critics of compulsory vaccination had been denigrated as science deniers or pandemic drivers. "The entire communication with the population and the way critics and skeptics were dealt with was a complete disaster. This way of addressing people also continues to have an impact to this day due to a lack of trust in politics. We therefore call on the federal and state governments in Germany to apologize to the population."

The AfD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament had submitted a major inquiry on the subject and concluded from the answers that the government's policy in the Free State had a "faulty data basis". On this basis, it called for a reorientation of the pandemic policy, the waiving of all coronavirus fines and an apology from Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) and Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD).

"A lot of data about the actual danger of the virus and the inadequate effectiveness of the vaccination was therefore not recorded or was ignored. Despite this flawed data basis, the state government has carried out massive encroachments on fundamental rights and propagated an allegedly effective vaccination with no side effects," said MP Alexander Wiesner in the state parliament. Large parts of the population had been denigrated as unvaccinated and discriminated against via the 2G measures.
