Three years after the devastating forest fire in Bohemian Switzerland, the time has come: in a few days, tourists will once again be able to sail on barges through a picturesque rocky gorge.

The boat trips through the Edmundsklamm gorge in Bohemian Switzerland, which are popular with tourists, are to be resumed. This was decided by the local council in Hrensko in the Czech Republic, as reported by the CTK news agency. The picturesque rocky gorge is crossed by the River Kamnitz (Kamenice) on its way to the Elbe. The attraction had been closed for safety reasons since the forest fires in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in the summer of 2022 due to the risk of rockfalls. This meant that the municipality lost an important source of income.

Hrensko is located just under 40 kilometers south-east of Dresden. The first boat trips for the public are set to begin on July 19. Initially, a test run with a limited capacity of 50 visitors per day is planned, according to the information. The service will be canceled in bad weather.

According to the municipality, experts will inspect the rocks once a month in order to identify any hazards in good time. In 2019, the last year before the coronavirus pandemic, 400,000 people visited Edmundsklamm Gorge. Bohemian Switzerland National Park is the continuation of Saxon Switzerland on the Czech side of the border. It covers an area of almost 80 square kilometers.
