Dresden will officially kick off the ice skating season this weekend at the Joynext Arena. The opening day is Saturday, with activities starting at 3 p.m., according to the state capital. Both the outdoor speed skating track and the indoor training rink will be open to visitors. Children can safely take to the ice with instructors from the ice sports school. In the evening, the ice disco invites everyone to celebrate. “Whether you’re an ambitious athlete or just skating for fun—everyone gets their money’s worth on our ice rinks,” said Jan Donhauser, the city’s mayor for sports, at the opening, and he has a tip: “Ice skating under the floodlights in the evening is a special experience.” Starting Sunday, the regular daily opening hours for the peak season will apply. New this year are the monthly themed parties at the Ice Disco on Saturdays. The series kicks off with a Halloween edition on October 31. On weekdays, curling is offered for groups in the evenings alongside ice skating. On four dates, children between the ages of three and nine can also try their hand at ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, or short track. On November 21, December 19, January 23, and February 20, Dresden’s ice sports clubs will offer insights into these sports. Children do not need any prior experience.
