The 115-year-old cable car in Augustusburg is undergoing a three-week cure and will therefore remain out of service until March 27. During this time, it will undergo a complete check-up, according to the Central Saxony Transport Association. This will involve replacing sleepers and rollers, servicing the running gear, maintaining the control system and getting the two carriages ready for spring. The train will also undergo a TÜV inspection.
Eight minutes up to Augustusburg Castle
The historic railroad has been taking day trippers from Erdmannsdorf up to Augustusburg Castle since 1911, covering a distance of more than 1.2 kilometers and climbing 168 metres in altitude. The journey takes eight minutes. The two carriages are pulled by a steel cable. According to the VMS, the cable car had almost 80,000 passengers last year. That was about the same number as in previous years.
After the annual maintenance break, the cable car is set to resume regular operations on March 28.
