The highway 72 near Plauen in the direction of Hof was closed for several hours due to a truck that caught fire. A police spokesperson said that the lane in the direction of Leipzig was also temporarily unusable due to heavy smoke. At around 6.30 p.m., traffic on the A72 was able to move again. According to the police, the fire on the truck broke out at around 3.45 pm. The driver was uninjured, but was treated by the emergency services as a precaution.
According to the city, several fire departments from Plauen and the surrounding area were deployed. The burning truck was located in the direction of Hof shortly before the Großzöbern exit. Vehicles had to drive around the area for a while.
The police were initially unable to provide any information about the truck's load, the possible cause of the fire or the property damage. The investigation has not yet been completed, the spokesperson said.
