The Fichtelberg Railway, which is popular for excursions, is taking a three-week break. From March 9 to 27, there will be no trains on the line between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal, according to the Saxon Steam Railway Company (SDG). During this time, trees and bushes will be pruned and the tracks and facilities will be refurbished. The fleet of carriages will also be examined more closely in the workshop. From March 28, excursionists can once again enjoy the romance of steam trains on the narrow-gauge line to the Fichtelberg.
The historic cable car in Augustusburg will also be out of service in the coming weeks. According to the Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS), sleepers and rollers will be replaced and the control system maintained. In addition, a TÜV inspection is due and the two carriages will be made fit for the new season. The train will be back on schedule from March 28. It has been in operation since 1911 and, according to the VMS, had almost 80,000 guests last year.
