Around 600 passengers were stranded for hours when an overhead line broke near Zahna-Elster in Saxony-Anhalt. Train services are now mostly running again - but when will everything be repaired?

After the overhead line damage on the line between Berlin and Halle/Leipzig, train services are largely running again. Most trains are running on the opposite track, which means that there are currently only delays of around ten minutes, according to a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman. Individual connections are still being diverted via Dessau.

On Saturday, an overhead line had already snapped along around one kilometer of track near Zahna-Elster in the district of Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt) and hit an ICE train. Around 600 passengers were stranded for hours. Two people were slightly injured in the incident on the important Berlin-Munich line.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the repair work is still ongoing. There is currently no forecast as to when they will be completed. It is also not yet clear why the overhead line broke.
