Fuel prices in Saxony rose significantly in the first quarter. The war in Iran was particularly noticeable in March, according to the State Statistical Office.

Fuel prices in Saxony have risen by 22.2 percent in just three months since the beginning of the year. "Inflation was particularly high in March 2026 as a result of the war in Iran," said the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. Compared to the previous month, fuel prices rose by 15.3 percent, diesel by as much as 22.3 percent. The annual inflation rate compared to March 2025 was 18.6 percent for fuels, including 28.7 percent for diesel fuel.

"The current price increases for fuels are the strongest since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022," the statisticians continued. "In the following years, fuel prices recovered slightly from the sharp increases in the meantime, but have remained at a high level since then."
