More speed, less noise: travelers and residents alike should benefit from the expansion of the Sachsen-Franken-Magistrale.

The construction work on the railroad line between Regis-Breitingen and Treben-Lehma (Altenburger Land district) has been completed on schedule. Passengers and residents alike will benefit from a significantly more efficient and modern infrastructure, Deutsche Bahn announced. The line is now double-tracked throughout. The stations have also been upgraded and now offer improved passenger information and step-free access. Noise protection walls along the route have made a noticeable contribution to reducing noise pollution for local residents. Remaining work is to be completed by the fall.

The section is part of the Saxony-Franconia Main Line. It stretches over around 288 kilometers and connects the federal states of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt with Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg via the Dresden-Hof and Leipzig-Werdau sections. DB is renewing the lines in order to adapt them to the future requirements of regional, long-distance and freight traffic. To this end, 32 electronic signal boxes are also being installed and 223 railroad bridges are being renovated. After the upgrade, trains will be able to travel at speeds of 160 instead of the current 120.
