The Saxon Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Dirk Panter, believes that the federal government has a duty in the face of rising fuel prices. The SPD politician called for an examination of possible "price-dampening measures" and an "intensive debate" on the subject. High oil prices would have a direct impact on petrol, diesel and heating oil and, like higher gas prices, would be poison for Germany's economic engine. "All of this is a burden on many households as well as companies - especially in a large state like Saxony."
"Affordable energy is not just a social issue"
"Affordable energy is not just a social issue, but also a location factor. Mobility costs are an important part of the calculation, especially for trade, logistics and many medium-sized companies," emphasized the Minister. Short-term market fluctuations were unfortunately a reality in geopolitical crises. It is crucial to monitor developments closely and then take targeted action - with a sense of proportion and economic common sense.
Fuel prices have also risen sharply in Germany in recent days following the attacks by the USA and Israel on Iran and the backlash from the Iranian military. People in regions close to the border in Saxony took advantage of "fuel tourism" in the Czech Republic and Poland.
