At the start of the new heating period, people in Saxony have benefited from lower energy prices. Within a year, prices for gas fell by 4.4 percent and for heating oil by 6.7 percent, according to the State Statistical Office. Electricity fell by 5.6 percent and district heating by 4.7 percent. Only solid fuels have recently been significantly more expensive than a year ago (up 6.4 percent).
According to the statisticians, the lower energy costs are slowing down inflation in Bavaria. Annual inflation was 2.1 percent in October. Without the price reductions for household energy, it would have been 2.8 percent.
