Some drivers like to accelerate on the highway without looking at the speed limit. The number of fines issued to speeders in Saxony remains at a high level.

Speeding violations are not uncommon on Saxony's freeways: at 24,793, the number of fines issued to speeders in the first half of 2025 was roughly on a par with the previous year (25,299). This was announced by the Saxony State Directorate, to which the central fines office belongs, in response to a dpa inquiry.

The highest speeding violation was reportedly measured on the A9. The vehicle was traveling at 207 kilometers per hour - after deducting the tolerance - in the direction of Munich; the speed limit was 80 kilometers per hour. The driver was therefore 127 kilometers per hour too fast.

Non-compliance with speed limits is particularly common

Among all traffic violations on freeways for which a fine was imposed, non-compliance with the speed limit is by far the most common, accounting for more than three-quarters of the total.

According to the figures, a total of 31,186 fines were issued in the first half of the year - in the same period last year, the figure was slightly higher at 31,431. Other common traffic violations on freeways registered by the police include, for example, ignoring the overtaking ban or the minimum distance.

A fine of 60 euros or more is due for more serious traffic violations, and a warning fine of 5 to 55 euros for minor violations. According to the state directorate, the revenue from fines and warnings following traffic violations on freeways amounted to a good 3.95 million euros in the first six months. In the same period in 2024, this was around 30,000 euros more.
