A new network in Saxony is bringing together the police, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and the judiciary to enable a faster response to digital attacks.

Saxony is responding to increasing digital attacks with a cross-agency cyber defense initiative. According to the State Chancellery, this involves a network that brings together experts from the State Criminal Police Office, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and the Central Office for Combating Cybercrime at the Dresden State Attorney General’s Office, among others.

In the event of an attack on government agencies or businesses, a shared cyber situational picture is intended to facilitate a rapid exchange of information. This is intended to speed up the investigation of such incidents. Saxony’s cyber defense efforts are also to be integrated into the federal government’s National Cyber Defense Center.

“Threats in cyberspace are increasing, becoming more sophisticated, and, in the worst-case scenario, causing significant damage. The state and public administration must keep pace with these developments and ensure security across jurisdictional boundaries,” explained Daniela Dylakiewicz, the Free State’s Commissioner for Information Technology.

The establishment of the cyber defense unit marks the implementation of a key initiative from the coalition agreement of the CDU-SPD minority government.
