CDU Minister President Michael Kretschmer has criticized the federal government's planned tax relief package and also attacked the coalition between the CDU/CSU and SPD. "I think we are experiencing a government that is not united, that is not giving this country any leadership on this issue and that worries me a lot," said Kretschmer on the ZDF morning show.
He had previously spoken about the fact that Germany must fundamentally become more competitive in order to be able to compete. He believes that the German government's plan to reduce the energy tax on diesel and petrol by around 17 cents gross per liter for two months is the right thing to do. However, he later emphasized: "In order to get Germany back on its feet, 17 cents for petrol is not the solution, we have to tackle it fundamentally," said Kretschmer.
