The embankment fire on the railroad line near Trebbin south of Berlin with consequences for long-distance traffic has been contained, according to the fire department. "But we have to make out the embers properly," said fire department operations manager Mario Schumann. The operation is ongoing. According to his findings so far, there have been repeated pockets of fire over a distance of around twelve kilometers.
The Berlin-Leipzig railroad line has been subject to restrictions since the afternoon due to an embankment fire. The line is currently closed between Jüterbog and Ludwigsfelde in Brandenburg, Deutsche Bahn announced on its website. An ICE train to Hamburg had to stop in Trebbin and return to Leipzig, a spokeswoman said.
