From August, passengers will have to pay more for their tickets within the Central German Transport Association (MDV). The prices for streetcar, train and bus tickets will increase by an average of 5.56 percent in the Altenburger Land, Burgenlandkreis, Leipzig and Nordsachsen districts and Saalekreis, 5.0 percent in Leipzig and 3.2 percent in Halle, according to the company. The reasons cited included higher fuel prices and collectively agreed wage increases.
The MDV network area includes the cities of Halle and Leipzig as well as the districts of Leipzig, North Saxony, Saalekreis, Burgenlandkreis and Altenburger Land. This also includes the local rail passenger transport routes of the districts of Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld as well as the city of Dessau-Roßlau.
