(Leipzig/sn) - According to its president, Eva Inés Obergfell, the University of Leipzig will likely be dealing with the aftermath of last Wednesday’s cyberattack for weeks to come. “We have to prepare ourselves for the fact that it will take weeks until all systems are back online and running optimally,” Obergfell stated on a temporary university website. Currently, the university is still in the analysis phase. They are examining “how we can largely restore operational capacity.” The next step will be to “gradually bring services back online, prioritizing them.” The president did not specify exactly when this would happen. Last Wednesday, the University of Leipzig fell victim to a hacker attack. As a result, the servers were taken offline “to prevent damage.” Since then, the website, among other things, has been unavailable, and email communication has also been limited. However, according to a spokesperson, the university’s faculties and central facilities have been accessible again via email through an external system since the end of last week. The central facilities include, among others, the University Library, the Center for University Sports, and the Language Center. Students and staff can stay informed about new developments on the temporary website, which is accessible at the usual web address. Among other things, the site states that the submission deadlines for written exams have been extended until November 6. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
