The mild spring has given Germany's fruit growers one of the best cherry harvests in years - yields in Saxony also increased significantly compared to the previous year. According to final estimates by the Federal Statistical Office, almost 750 tons of sweet cherries and over 1,800 tons of sour cherries were harvested this year.
Frost had caused an extremely meagre harvest last year: in 2024, only 60 tons of sweet cherries and around 135 tons of sour cherries were harvested. In 2023, 572 tons of sweet cherries and 1,770 tons of sour cherries were harvested, compared to around 760 tons of sweet cherries and 1,700 tons of sour cherries in 2022.
