In Saxony, more and more truck drivers are violating the driving ban on Sundays and public holidays. In the first half of this year, 510 such violations were reported to the Central Fines Office of the Saxony State Directorate, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on request. In the same period last year, there were 450 violations.
Exceptions for transports with fresh food
On Sundays and public holidays, trucks with a permissible total weight of over 7.5 tons are not allowed to drive between midnight and 10 pm. This only applies to goods traffic in the commercial sector. Transports of fresh foodstuffs such as milk, meat, fish and perishable fruit and vegetables are exempt.
If a truck driver is caught, he will be prevented from continuing his journey and will receive a fine of 120 euros. The fine for the vehicle owner or the person issuing the order is 570 euros.
