Speed camera marathon in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia

In the coming week, the police will be stepping up speed checks on the roads. Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are also taking part in the Europe-wide campaign week, according to the ADAC.

But what does this mean for drivers? And what are the penalties for violations? An overview:

What happens during "Speedweek"?

With the so-called "Speedweek", the police are primarily targeting speeders. The control week runs from April 13 to 19. During this period, there will be increased speed checks. Special caution is required on April 15, the main day of the campaign.

According to the ADAC, there will be significantly more checks, especially on accident-prone stretches of road and in areas where there is a particular risk. These include schools, construction sites, kindergartens, retirement homes and hospitals. This affects freeways and main roads as well as roads in built-up areas.

Where will speed cameras be carried out?

Speed cameras can be expected in some places on several freeways, including on the A9 towards Munich and Berlin near Leipzig/Halle, on the A4 towards Dresden and Frankfurt/Main in Thuringia and Saxony, as well as on the A71 towards Sangerhausen.

Speed checks will also be carried out in towns and municipalities. In Erfurt, for example, on the B4. Leipzig is not taking part in the campaign week.

Driving too fast - what now?

Drivers who are flashed during the campaign week will be subject to the usual sanctions - from fines and points in Flensburg to driving bans.

According to the ADAC, the amount of the fine depends on the extent of the speeding and whether the offense was committed in urban or rural areas.

In urban areas, the penalties are generally higher. From 16 kilometers per hour too much, you face a fine of 70 euros. Anyone driving 26 km/h too fast in urban areas must expect a fine of 180 euros, a point in Flensburg and even a driving ban if they do it again.
